Heist

Oakland, 2020

Featured medium: shadows

In a neighborhood where creatives are taking root alongside galleries, restaurants and bars, there is a newly converted auto repair shop that’s causing architectural buzz – the new home of Heist, a flourishing studio specializing in visual storytelling and production. Medium Plenty led the complete renovation of the industrial interior and exterior, starting with gutting the entire building and ending with the finishing touches on its outdoor trellis and custom wood bench in the entry.

Inside the 5,500 square foot studio is an open workspace with “white boxes” inserted into the gleaming metal shell. These are private suites used for meeting rooms, shooting spaces, editing and finishing. Oversized glass sliding doors create an expansive glimmering façade that welcomes visitors and brings the outdoors in. The gracious yard is an occasional setting for the neighborhood’s outdoor movie night.
