Tai joins MP with nearly 25-years of experience in a wide range of building types. Most recently, he was a partner at an award winning mid-sized studio in SF where he collaboratively worked on various aspects of the business with the other partners from strategic planning, sales/business development, staff development/mentoring, best practices, etc. In addition to spearheading the sustainability/climate agenda within the executive team, he helped to establish the firm’s community engagement program (Pro Bono, volunteerism/giving) and Corporate Social Responsibility framework; lead firm-wide efforts as the firm’s Director of Sustainability and launched annual sustainability initiatives to continually level-up the firm’s sustainable design practice and climate awareness/fluency, helping the firm stay on track with 2030 Commitment goals; while leading and managing project teams on various award winning residential and commercial projects from conceptual design to execution over the course of the tenure.
My favorite medium is...shaping the experience of space. I grew up in Japan, where I learned to approach the discipline of architecture similarly to how one would approach a trade, much like woodworking or metalworking. Only through deep exploration of your craft do you become a master of your medium.
